/ Books & Movies About Cars
The best way to gain knowledge is by reading. To increase my knowledge around the world of cars and motor sport I have been making my way through books. Below is my library so far and thoughts on the titles.
Ferrari 70 years
By Dennis Adler
Fantastic books and provides a very light overview of 70 years of Ferrari's history. Looking at the cars and the relationship with Chinetti.
Ferrari 6th Edition
By Hans Tanner
Compared to Ferrari 70 years, this book dives deep in to Ferrari's History. Regrettably Hans himself wasn't able to complete to book but still worth the read!
Maserati - The Citroen Years
By Marc Sonnery
Featured on the front cover and two additional edits inside the book, I have yet to read this one. Skimming over the book though it is a well versed and deeply covers the topic.
The Deal Maker
By Tom Hartley
This book shares and insight in to Tom Jnr (now Snr) life and how he became the dealer we know today. More focusing on Tom and his business rather than car fact.
Lamborghini Urraco
By Arnstein Landem
Featured in this book, I have yet to read this one. Skimming over the book though it is a well versed and deeply covers the topic.
Niki Lauder
By Maurice Hamilton
Niki was an impressive character and this book really portrays his life before, during and after racing. Even you are not an F1 you need to listen to what he achieved despite adversity.
The Carroll Shelby Story
By Carroll Shelby
Le mans racer and part reason for Ford's victory over Ferrari in '66 this book covers the majority of Carroll's living career regrettably not finished before his death. Provides some great anecdotes but does drift off on sales brochure detail.
Diddly Squat
By Jeremy Clarkson
Not about cars but read by Jeremy this is a great Audible book from the OG and provides more insight from the Amazon TV show.
How to build a car
By Adrian Newey
Not an F1 fan previously, but certainly invested now. This superbly well written book is an even look at the life and career of the legend which is Adrian Newey.
Jenson Button
By Jenson Button
The baby faced racer. This book looks into how Jenson got in to racing and the trials he faced to become champion.
Racing in the dark
By Peter Grimsdale
From a time forgotten by most people this book provides a fantastic insight into the original gentleman racers known as the Bentley Boys.
Lewis Hamilton
By Mark Hughes
Mainly covers his start and first season in Mclaren. The book is more of a biography than an auto biography and can feel like a fact sheet at times.
Ferrari : Passion For Design
By teNeues
Beautiful book which covers a few select models with a small amount of detail and stunning visuals. Great coffee table book.
LAMBORGHINI
Movie
Regrettably the movie is neither factually great nor is visually great. It barely covers any of the history of the brand.
Le Mans 66
Movie
Factually incorrect at times but overall casts a brilliant depiction of the Ford and Ferrari Feud, worth reading Carroll's book prior.
Ferrari - Race to immortality
Movie
Looks at the history of Ferrari racing with Mike Hawthorn and Phil Collins. Beautifully captured and worth the watch!
RUSH
Movie
Quite a lot of fictitious drama is portrayed between the 2 drivers but this movie does a fantastic job at recreating the moment.
DRIVEN - The men who made formula 1 By Kevin Eason
Great read which covers quite a lot of ground. Also has great anecdotal information and gets the mind wondering to learn more about each individual person.
Henry Ford - My Life and Work
By Henry Ford
This book was written when henry ford was alive so it is more of a monologue about his thoughts on work ethic and the world rather than a biopic about the man and the cars.
MOSLEY
Movie
Biopic of Max Mosley's life covering his controversial family, F1, the FIA and the scandal which ended his career. Felt a bit abridged but worth the watch.
The Dealer
By Jim Ciardella
Talks about the ground breaking Los Gatos dealership, their meteoric rise and fall and the stories which made them. Good read but offers no factual information.
SENNA
Movie
Made from snippets and interviews covering the racing legends life in F1. Great Sunday afternoon watch.
A Life of Speed
Movie
A name I know but a story I didn't. One of the real pioneers who help sculpt motoring as we know it.
Max Verstappen by James Gray
Being honest, it was an empty book. Max hasn't really been around long enough to have a history. However, it is filled with information from other F1drivers which is quite interesting.
Tales From the Indianapolis 500 by Jack Arute
It wasn't a bad book and has got me amped to go and see it in person however, who the hell are all of these people and what is an indy car!?
