I think it is safe to say Michael is the GOAT of modern F1. I appreciate people like Hamilton, Max and Lando are fantastic drivers, but they are living in the age of modern F1. The cars are safer, they are faster and with training programs they have been cut to be the best of the best. By no means does this diminish their achievements nor does it mean the job is less dangerous but even modern drivers can contest those older cars where a handful.
Now Michael can’t really be classed as the all-time GOAT as the same applies to him. Would he have been just as good in Ferrari 1512? Who knows. But for the Aerodynamic era, he certainly was. Born in 1969 in Westphalia Germany, Michael won 7 drivers championships, 91 total wins and had 155 podiums. Lewis who is still racing (bear in mind Michael can’t) he is only 13 wins ahead. Like all records they are meant to be broken, he has still made a milestone which took a while to catch.
After a near fatal accident that saw Michael disappear into reclusion, the F1 fandom still urged for the star and as a fitting tribute his personal collection was setup in Motorworld of Cologne in the Michael Schumacher Private Collection. Free to enter, the collection sits above the ground floor which has vendors, restaurants and Motorworlds infamous glass storage. As you ascend the stairs (depending which way you come up) you will be greeted with one of Michaels race cars. I started from the Ferrari end of course.
All around the collection you will find memorabilia, helmets, trophies, medals and race suits which were owned by Michael. We don’t know where he is but looking at his wall of accomplishments, I really hoped he still had the capacity to know what he had achieved and given to the world.
